The professional record of Dr. Ankur Bindal is that of a physician trained and certified in psychiatry and sleep medicine. He is the founder of KAB Medical Group, also called KMG Psychiatry, and he led the practice in San Diego and Los Angeles, holding the CEO and President roles from its 2016 founding until 2025. There, traditional psychiatric care and brain stimulation therapies were combined under one roof. Today, Aroga Group is where Ankur Bindal serves as President and Co-Founder.
Sleep medicine was one of the two pillars of his clinical expertise. Dr. Bindal trained in the specialty through a fellowship at the University of Michigan, in its Department of Neurology, and he earned board certification in sleep medicine. As a co-founder of Progressive Sleep Center, Inc., he was also one of its co-owners and served as its Treasurer. He held a combined role at Yuma Regional Medical Center as Executive Medical Director, Adult Psychiatrist and Sleep Specialist.
His research collaborations spanned several subjects. Projects he worked on include studies of the effect of obstructive sleep apnea on intracranial pressure, the use of CPAP in pregnant women with sleep-related breathing disorders, early-life REM deprivation as it relates to late-onset depression and hippocampal plasticity in rat models, and the effects of intermittent hypoxia in preventing myocardial infarction in dog models.
The other pillar, and the center of his clinical work, was brain stimulation. TMS, short for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is an outpatient, non-invasive treatment in which magnetic pulses stimulate nerve cells in the brain to ease symptoms of depression and other conditions; it's typically offered to patients who haven't found relief with antidepressant medications. At KMG Psychiatry, Ankur Bindal grew a high-volume brain stimulation practice. Former NFL players, professionals and other physicians were among the patients treated there, along with patients from around the world, and he made the innovative but costly treatment available to underserved patients as well.
He was named a Diamond Circle Provider, a designation that recognizes the highest-volume TMS practices. In 2023, Health Conference 2.0 gave him both its Outstanding Corporation Award and its Outstanding Leadership Award.
His treatment philosophy combined the established and the new. Alongside medication management and counseling, he used newer therapies including TMS and intranasal esketamine (Spravato), with the aim of giving patients the best possible outcomes.
Dr. Ankur Bindal's leadership in medicine reached past his own practice. At Aligned Integrated Medical Group, the post he held was Medical Director and Adult Psychiatrist; at Pacific Health System, he was a Co-owner and the Vice President. He served on Quality Monitoring Committees at Community Health Group and at Yuma Regional Medical Center, and he took part in the Vice-Chancellor's Residents Group of Fellows on Health, Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership.
He also shared his perspective publicly, speaking and serving on panels at multiple national and regional conferences. Time featured him in a piece on sleep doctors' best advice. A Fox 5 San Diego segment on local psychiatrists aiming to remove the stigma of anxiety and depression included him, as did You Matter, the CBS 8 segment contrasting mental health myths with effective treatments. As a contributor to Forbes Business Council, Ankur Bindal has written about sleep habits that support a restful night, how business leaders can manage seasonal depression, and practical ways to sharpen mental clarity and focus during the workday.
Dr. Bindal's Doctor of Medicine degree came from Government Medical College in Chandigarh, India, in 2003. He earned his Master of Public Health from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, majoring in Social and Behavioral Sciences and in Clinical Research/Biostatistics. He trained as a resident in Adult Psychiatry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, and in Family Medicine at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is where he earned certification as a Diplomate. He was named a Fellow by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and a Distinguished Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association.
He also received the National Institute of Mental Health/American Academy of Clinical Psychopharmacology Award, the American Psychiatric Association Diversity Leadership Award, the Psychopharmacological Scholar's Award and the Ed Draper Award for Outstanding Senior Resident, as well as acknowledgment from the Arizona Psychiatric Society. He belonged to the San Diego Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Psychiatric Association, and he completed two years of service on the American Psychiatric Association Member Council of Health Care Systems and Financing.
After almost ten years leading KMG Psychiatry, Dr. Ankur Bindal chose to focus his time entirely on Aroga Group. He co-founded the Southern California-based company in 2020 and, as its President and Co-Founder, oversees companies in residential and commercial real estate investing and holding, development, and management services. His Forbes Business Council pieces also take on the workplace, with articles on setting boundaries at work and clearing mental clutter.
His service included a seat on the board of the Department of Consumer Affairs Structural Pest Control Board from 2022 through 2025 and membership on the Health Care Committee of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, which featured KAB Medical Group in its member spotlight. San Diego Business Journal included him among the Top 50 Most Influential Health Care Leaders in 2025, and San Diego Magazine, which had featured him in Faces of San Diego 2023, named him one of its Top 50 People to Watch in 2026.
Ankur Bindal has given to local schools, military affiliates, the YMCA, the Red Cross and professional health organizations, and away from work he enjoys being with his wife, daughter and dog.
